Mapping Application (CMA)
EM
Systems' Crime Mapping Application (CMA) provides law enforcement
a visual of criminal activity, including complaints, incidents,
arrests and/or user defined data. The system can also be used
to map parolees or suspects.
Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) create digital representations that
enable users to examine data analytically, not just visually.
Mapping crime, using GIS, allows crime analysts to identify
crime hot spots, along with other trends and patterns. Crime
analysts use crime mapping and analysis to help law enforcement
management to make better decisions, target resources, and
formulate strategies, as well as for tactical analysis (e.g.
crime forecasting, geographic profiling).
Mapping allows users to understand where crime is occurring,
determine crime patterns, identify areas of high crime density
and possible linkages between crimes. Crime mapping can help
law enforcement identify the underlying conditions that give
rise to crime problems, as well as assess the effectiveness
of responses to those problems. Crime mapping provides law
enforcement agencies with a powerful tool to aid in crime
control and crime prevention efforts.
The
sample map below displays crimes for Assaults (blue pins)
and Narcotics (red pins) incidents.
